At AquaVera we are very proud of our area and its inhabitants. For that reason and because you deserve it, we wanted to prepare a very special post in which we will mention some of the best villages you can visit in the north of Almeria.
Let’s get started!
We start our list of recommendations with one of the most beautiful villages of Almeria, Velez Blanco. A place where some of the most famous monuments of the region such as the Castillo de los Fajardo or the Cueva de los Letreros ( declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO).
All accompanied by incredible panoramic views and natural scenery where you can make getaways and natural hiking trails with your family or alone.
Although if what we want is to get lost in the natural wastelands of the Levante, we could not leave Nijar out of the list. A place where you will find the most spectacular scenic environment of this area: the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata.
We can find the Almanzora Valley region, an excellent idea to get to know a different Almeria. 27 villages integrated in a unique landscape with numerous hiking trails scattered throughout this territory. In addition, we can find the Serón Observatory, a state-of-the-art digital planetarium where you can carry out activities with the whole family.
If we are looking for unique areas, it is the perfect time to bring the Tabernas Desert to the scene. A place between the Sierras de los Filabres and Alhamilla considered the only desert area in the whole European continent.
Culture, nature and local gastronomy
We continue with three recommendations of some of the most outstanding towns in our region. Carboneras has a pleasant rugged environment with which it has gone from being a discreet fishing village to a first class tourist center with all the ingredients that can be asked of a Mediterranean coastal town: good food, wide beaches and a unique natural setting.
Followed by Lucainena de las Torres, a village framed by the high mountains that surround it and of great history for its origins based on the Roman Empire.
On the other hand, if you are looking for something more “gastronomic” we recommend a visit to Serón, a town that specializes in its artisan tradition of products such as ham and sausages in all their purity.
We would like to make a special mention to the Marble Interpretation Museum in Macael, the colorful walk that can be enjoyed in the old quarries. In the neighboring town of Olula del Río, do not miss the Pérez Siquier Center, one of the most renowned Spanish photographers, or the Ibáñez Museum where you can admire the paintings of Goya, Antonio López, Zuloaga or Pinazo. Sculpture, photography and craftsmanship at its best.
Or visit the renowned Fortaleza del Sol, the castle of Lorca that has a great panoramic view of the surroundings and gardens where you can rest from the trip.
And if we talk about castles, the castle of San Juan de las Águilas, in the town of Águilas (Murcia) with spectacular views of the coast.
Now all that remains is to start organizing the trip and get down to work.
See you soon in a new AquaVera post!
